Example Relief Collective is a fictional organization. Every figure and every giver in this report is made up to show what the Personas screens in Donor Insights contain. The persona names, labels, and rules are the ones the product uses.

Donor InsightsHow a persona is built

Two facts per giver, 20 personas

A persona is a giver's generation, from their birth year, crossed with the kind of place they live, from their postal code. Four generations plus Age unknown, times four kinds of place, make 20 personas. A giver keeps their persona unless the birth year or address on file changes. What changes year to year is their lifecycle stage inside it.

Personas turn on when the file covers enough givers

The table needs each giver's birth year and postal code. Birth years must cover at least 25% of givers and a postal code we can place at least 50%. Example Relief Collective meets both: 90% of its 24,223 givers have a postal code we can place. Givers without one are in no persona. The dark tick is the minimum.

Birth year53% (needs 25%)
Postal code90% (needs 50%)

Postal codes are placed in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, using our own mapping of each postal area to City, Suburb, Town or Country, built from official public geography files with our own density cut-offs. Nothing is bought or appended to place a giver. A giver with no birth year joins an Age unknown persona.

Each persona takes the median Donor score of its givers: how healthy their giving is to date. A persona with fewer than 10 givers keeps its place and shows no numbers, so no card describes a handful of people. In the app, a Rank by toggle switches the table to the Opportunity score.

Go monthlyfor a giver who is not lapsed and has never given monthly
Upgradefor a giver in Retain, Convert or Reactivate: a larger gift

Donor InsightsHow the numbers work

Scores, stages, and what stays private

Donor score

How healthy a giver's giving is to date, from 0 to 100. It weighs the chance they give in the next 12 months, how much and how often they have given compared with your other givers, whether their last 12 months are up or down on the 12 before, and their lifecycle stage.

Opportunity score

How much room a giver has to do more. It takes the giver's strongest Next ask and ranks it against every giver in your organization as a percentile, so 90 means more room than 90% of your givers.

Lifecycle stages

Acquirefirst gift in the last 12 months, and only one gift day so far
Convertfirst gift within the last 24 months, and two or more gift days
Retainfirst gift more than 24 months ago, and gave in each of the last two 12-month windows
Lapsedno gift in the last 12 months
Reactivatefirst gift more than 24 months ago, gave in the last 12 months after a year without a gift
